Legislative Action

Newsflash

Gov. Tomblin has finally signed the Puppy Mill Bill!   Five long years for this bill and the Spay Neuter Bill to get through the Legislature.   Both have been tweaked but they still passed.   We will provide more of an update on exactly what each bill means for the animals of WV soon.   For now, let's just enjoy our measure of success!   Thanks to all of you who made calls, sent emails and went to Charleston.  You truly were the voice for these animals!

Also there is an excellent OP ED on Puppy Mills and why we needed this bill, in the Charleston Gazette, from Summer Wyatt, WV Director of HSUS.

Past WV Legislative Sessions PDF Print E-mail

We have kept the Legislative Information from past sessions back to 03 on here for those of you seeking animal legislative history and what has been submitted whether passed or not.  O4 is not available.   PDF files of some of the animal bills are available also thanks to Jeanne Guise of Morgan County.
At times we have listed those who have voted against important animal legislation. The intent here is so those of you from certain areas can contact your legislators to make them aware of the value of animal legislation in protecting animal welfare in West Virgina.  You will see comments from Sylvia Shafer and at times an editorial comment from FOHO. We have attempted to keep the information just as it occurred daily at the state capitol.
We are fairly certain this is the only record of its kind for animal legislation in West Virginia.  This is the daily activity at the state capitol from our perspective as an animal advocacy agency.
